Many people, even some churchgoers, do not recognize the value to the community of transforming lives through Christ. So people believe the church's role is social service - and Dr. Kinnamon (minister of the Christian Church) says churches need to be careful about that image. "We've got to be first and foremost about Jesus and about the scriptures - and because of that it compelts us to want to adopt, it compels us to want to take care of the poor, it compels us to want to answer the skeptics about the role of religion, about our faith. But when we get those things turned upside down, I think we can quickly become a social club rather than a movement of God's people."
Examples: Helping the poor, cultivating biblical values, serving the youth and families and the ederly, providing some sort of ministry, helping in terms of recovery for those people who need to get their lives back in order, etc.
